This Wonderful Land
by Richard Morales

In this land
A great man once remarked "I have a dream"
a dream still a nightmare for many.

People are innocent 'til proven guilty
some are guilty Œtil proven innocent.

You can come and go as you please
if you are in the right neighborhood.

Free speech is a cherished
so long as the speech is in English.

We believe people are created equal
Yet, for some equality is hard to come.

In this land
"Ask not what your country can do for you,
but what you can do for your country"
So, "What have you done for me lately?"

Minorities hear "Do more for yourself"
Then are told "You need me to succeed"

Opportunities abound everywhere
if the skin colour is right.

Minority opportunities abound
but, everybody is a minority.

Virtues are education and hard work
yet, we pay homage to lawbreakers.

Children kill children over clothes and drugs
we wonder why when both parents work.

Parents wonder why children won't talk to them
as they return from "getting away from it all."

Parents complain "I can't control my kids!"
as they watch TV, drink beer, and use drugs.

Parents show their love for children
by abusing, selling, aborting, or killing them.

If one person kills, they are brutal, no remorse
however, if victims kill they're justified.

We cry "Save the whale, save the rain forest"
then we debate: legal injection or firing squad.

In this land
We make laws to keep guns from criminals,
and keep world peace with military force.

We bring the world peace in their lands
yet, do nothing to bring peace to our streets.

To all of you who may wonder
where this wonderful land may be

THIS IS AMERICA!!!
